Peek-a-Boo!

One of the delights of living where I do, is that when my son calls and says ... "are you busy, mom? come on over - the kids and I are going to the park and we want to see you" ... if I'm not doing anything, it's only a short 10 minute drive. This time, I grabbed my camera because I realized I didn't have any recent pictures of these darlings. I have a new camera - well new to me - and I'm still trying to figure out the settings. I also have a daughter-in-law who is a budding professional photographer with a high end camera and takes beautiful photos! But I have decided not be be intimated and the following are part of this delightful short-and-sweet visit!

Grandma: "hey kids, go over by that tree so I can get a picture of you all together"
Mackenna, Kennedy & Kaidan: "how's this, grandma?!"

Mackenna: ".. or we could play peek-a-boo ..."

I decided that getting any kind of group photo-shoot just wasn't going to happen today. As I looked over to my right, Kaidan had fallen onto his daddy ... and well ... if a picture is worth a thousand words ... I LOVE pictures of kids with their daddy's!

And then there is the usually elusive Kennedy ... who only stood still long enough when I asked if she has a belly-button!

My belly-button?

I know it's in here somewhere!

There it is!

Me? Blog?

Why Blog? According to blogger.com, the reason to create a BLOG is to “easily share your thoughts with the world.”

My mind works quickly to “how did this all come about?” It feels like we’ve turned into a society of show-offs and voyeurs … each feeding the other with endless words and images ... hoping to evoke ... ummmm what?

I wonder how much of the world really cares about my thoughts … and anyone else’s for that matter! Don’t take offense to this statement … it just happens to be the truth!

Those who are so inclined, have for centuries, ‘blogged’ for their own enjoyment and to keep track of family and personal events … we called it a diary or journal! I didn’t know till I was an adult, but even my dad kept a daily diary of what our family did, sometimes including the weather (he grew up a farmers son!). It was usually only a few lines in one of those little locked diary’s where teenage girls would write their secret thoughts and crushes! But back to my dad … it was fascinating to me, and made me feel somewhat secure that he had honored each day by jotting down our activities.

So now, why do I want to do this? And do I really? And what will it look like? Many years ago, when my first marriage was ending, I happened to read an article in the newspaper that one way to get through a separation, divorce or difficult time, was to write about it. The article stated that you could write anything you felt – you could question, scream, vent or cry – on paper … and nobody would ever have to see it (unless you chose to show it!) And so I did … discovering the cheapest form of therapy! I not only wrote about my ex and my feelings about the end of marriage, but expanded it to other areas of my life, job and family. A few years later, while packing up to move (something I did on a regular basis), I found the pages and note books and read a little of my ventings … and discovered that I’d totally forgotten – and forgiven – those wrongs done against me – or so I felt at the time. It worked! I took great pleasure in tearing up the pages into tiny bits and tossing them into the garbage … the purpose was complete and there was no reason to hang onto any of it anymore.

So we’ll see where this all goes! I don’t want to blog just because it’s-expected-now-that-I-have-a-blog-site! It will be a place where I express my thoughts, either through words, photography, art or any other way I want to; and on any topic I want! ummmm … looks like I’ve just joined the masses of bloggers!
